Implant-Retained Dentures
A denture that clips onto implants stays where you put it. It takes the guesswork out of eating and speaking with a full arch replacement.
What it is
An implant retained denture is a full arch of teeth that snaps onto a set of posts in the jaw. It is still removable for cleaning, but it does not move around while you use it.
Conventional dentures rest on the gum and rely on suction and shape for grip. Adding implants changes that. The denture is held by the posts, so it does not need adhesive to stay put.
How many posts an arch needs depends on the bone and the design. We work that out from imaging and talk it through before treatment starts.
Who it is for
- Your current denture moves when you eat or talk.
- You rely on adhesive and would rather not.
- You are missing all or most of the teeth in one arch.
- You want more stability without a fully fixed bridge.
- You still want to take the appliance out for cleaning.
What to expect
Assessment
We look at your current denture, your bite, and your bone. If your existing denture can be adapted, we will tell you.
Planning
Post positions are planned from a scan so the clips end up where the denture is strongest.
Placement and healing
Posts are placed under local anaesthetic, then given time to integrate. You are reviewed during that period.
Fitting and adjustment
The denture is connected to the attachments and adjusted in person. Small refinements after the first week are normal and expected.
Questions we hear most
Yes. It unclips for cleaning and most people remove it overnight. We go through the routine with you at the fitting visit.
Sometimes it can be adapted, and sometimes a new one is the better result. We assess it first and give you a straight answer.
The design can often be made smaller than a conventional denture because the implants provide the grip. We discuss the design before it is made.
The clips wear over time and get replaced as part of routine care. We check them at your regular visits.
